2D-Echocardiography (2D-Echo) is a non-invasive test given to view the functioning of the heart and its structures. It shows images of numerous parts of the heart using sound waves. Moreover, this is mostly used to check for damages, blockages, and blood flow rate. Aruna Diagnostics offers the best 2D-Echo in Hyderabad using advanced technology equipment.

With the technological advancements, 2D-Echo has gained popularity over ECG. 2D-Echo allows doctor to assess cardiac valve areas, and abnormalities between left and right sides of the heart. It also accurately analyses the presence of leaking of blood through the valves (valvular regurgitation) and calculates the cardiac output and ejection fraction. To assess cardiac structures and functioning, 2D-Echo is considered the Gold standard.

What is 2D-Echo procedure

2D-Echo is usually performed in the presence of a radiology specialist and a cardiologist. Let us discuss the process of 2D-Echo below:

During the procedure, a transducer or probe is placed on the chest at specific locations and angles. A transducer or a probe sends out sound waves at a high frequency. The sound waves pass through the heart tissues and bounce back as “echo” from the heart structures. These sound waves or echo’s are sent to a computer that is attached to the transducer. This creates moving images of the heart walls and valves on the Computer monitor. These images are printed on paper, recorded on DVD, and handed over to the patient to interpret results.

The patient will be given a gown to wear and asked to lie on a table during the procedure. A gel kind of thing is applied to your skin, and the transducer is placed on the gel. This gel helps the transducer get clear views of the heart, its tissues, and its structures. The technician then moves the transducer across the various parts of the chest. Patients sometimes may be asked to hold their breath, take deep breaths, or sniff through their noses during the procedure. In a few cases, an IV contrast is given to the patients if the structures of the heart are hard to see.

This 2D-Echo process takes around 20 minutes to 1 hour to complete.
